The international project Transkaukazja 2011 is pleased to announce the Competition for participation in SITE SPECIFIC ART.

Competition is organized by New Art Union, Fundacja Inna Przestrzen/Other Space Foundation and Transkaukazja Festival, with the support of the Cultural Program of the European Union.

Site Specific Art promoting and providing the Social-Cultural Bridge and effective communication between different societies.

Background

The Trends of Art is appropriate to its historical periods, as the “Soviet period” lasting about 70 years has left own trace among the post-soviet countries architecture. Similar as industrial processes of 20th century, resulting lots of different constructional-functional, social classical buildings spread through all the former USSR territories. During the Soviet time this structures within its functioning were considered as a part of Soviet life and ideology. Some of this building’s style, exterior and interior was designed to glory the Soviet era, idealizing and admiring its main goals. Others were created according of Soviet Industrial epoch contained by strict functioning trends. It should be marked that in this whole process of founding Soviet Art were involved lots of professional architectures, designers, artists. Today we have to admit that most of these structures, left form Soviet era, representing our cultural heritage, are abandoned or half ruined. Unfortunately these structures are not considered as an political–historical part of country, neither have been perceived its esthetic artistic importance, which needs attention to avoid their ruining and demolishing.

Project Type
The main aim of competition is artistic inspiration of historical or functioning building from 20th century, excising in Tbilisi, Rustavi, Zestafoni, Terjola and Tkibuli. We are providing the Gallery of images from Tbilisi, Rustavi, Tkibuli, and Zestafoni uploaded on webpage http://www.transkaukazja.eu or it can be the public place /building of your choice from above mentioned cities. There is no limit in representation of your creative look at Site specific art.

It can be performance, installation, visual exhibition, mix media art, theatrical movements or public walking, projections, music and verbal declarations, interactive activities. It is a priory to participate and involve the wide public.

It is most significant to emphasize the importance of this structure’s historical and functional meaning by inspiration with a new artistic view and context, to achieve the attraction of wide public by creatively illustrate the importance of this places in political –historical and cultural spectrum.

Activities will provide involvement of diverse society in different contemporary art processes, acknowledgment of a new artistic views of urban spaces as in Tbilisi as in regions of the country.

Contest will make available to spread more information about importance and role of this buildings, illustrate them to wide society as a part of our history, thus giving a chance of reconstruction/renovation and riving its confluence with society.

Who can apply
An Artist or group of artists, all organizations working in cultural sphere ( non-governmental and commercial),also other initiative groups and individuals are eligible to apply.

Grant Database
The Project proposals should be submitted no later than 2nd of April 2011
The results of selected and awarded projects will be announced at 12th of April 2011
Deadline of the project realization not later than 30th of May.

All submitted project proposals must meet the following requirements:
The application should be typed, and written in any following two languages: Georgian-English or Russian – English, recorded on CD or emailed at mail: info@newart.org.ge

The grant application form should consist of:
- the title page
- applicant information
- project description
- business plan
- budget
- expected results
- monitoring and evaluation.

The Grant application form can include additional information/appendix (any information, that can make the application more detailed and understandable).

Incomplete grant application forms will be considered technically incorrect will not be reviewed.

Applications (projects) will not be returned.
